Final Fantasy Tactics

A Knightblade's Guide to Equipment

More than in any other Squaresoft game, save perhaps for Final Fantasy 9, equipment makes the man (or woman) in Tactics. As per usual, physical attack power is related to the weapons you choose to wield. In a departure from the norm, a large proportion of your hit points is derived from your armour-- particularly, your helm and breastplate. The ability to evade hits, where it is affected by armour, is derived mainly from the shield and certain accessories.

All of this means that proper husbanding of your equipment is vital. Unlike in Dragon Warrior VII, wherein eligibility for wearing equipment has more to do with the character than the class she belongs to, in FF Tactics you might find yourself naked when you change your class. It's better to have some extras stocked away.

Some equipment is easy to get-- just buy it at the appropriate store. Not all towns carry the same merchandise, but all the same, a simple road trip with gil in your pocket will see you through.

Some gear is more challenging-- you have to kill monsters, poach them using the Thief's Secret Hunt ability, and sell their hides at fur shops. In exchange, the Fur Trader will offer you items at discounted rates. Some items can only be purchased through the Fur Trader, and only after handing over specific hides.

Rarer items can only be found through use of the Chemist's Move-Find Item ability. These will be secreted in certain battlefields, waiting for the right adventurer to come along and unearth them.

The rarest of all equipment can only be found on the backs and in the hands of your enemies. Only a character skilled in theft will be able to liberate them.

Each of the subpages will detail the category and name of the item, its cost and attributes, and how to get it.
