Henry White (?-1861)
Henry White, [The City Sportsmen], c. 1805
wood engraving, 4.3 x 7.7 cm, EAG 90.42.121
Relatively little is known about Henry White, including his birth date. He first apprenticed with John Lee in London until the latter's death in 1804 and completed his apprenticeship in Newcastle under Thomas Bewick from 1804 to 1808. After this, he returned to London and seems to have perfected a technique of cross-hatching in his engravings. He died in 1861.
